Avrial Mendoza, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Avrial grew up in the New River Valley of Virginia before pursuing undergraduate studies at Mid-Atlantic Christian University followed by a Master's degree in Counseling from Regent University. Since 2005, Avrial has worked in substance use treatment settings, in high schools serving adolescents with behavioral or learning difficulties, as a crisis counselor, and in an outpatient setting with those with severe mental illness. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2011. While she takes techniques from multiple counseling approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, and at times attachment theory, she leans toward helping her clients find practical strategies and skills to approach life's challenges. Issues she has worked others to address with include anxiety, depression, ADHD, high-functioning autism, trauma, addictive behaviors, grief, social skills, relationship problems, and spiritual issues. As the foundation of her approaches, she believes in the inherent worth of every individual as a child of God and sees the counseling relationship as an opportunity to walk alongside others in their journey. Avrial is happily married with a beloved and spoiled dog. She enjoys traveling, cooking and baking, and spending time with friends and family at home and abroad.
