Roanoke Community Resources
At ABT Counseling, we recognize that sometimes the best way to help someone with their mental health can be to help meet their physical needs. We’ve compiled a list of five community resources available to the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. These resources can help you or your loved ones in need to increase their physical security.
Manna Food Pantry from The Rescue Mission of Roanoke
This food pantry is a drive-through, weekly grocery box distribution providing approximately 60lbs of supplies per box to families in the Roanoke and surrounding areas. Boxes include non-perishable pantry items, fresh produce, frozen meat, and pet food.
To register for a box, text 540-598-5203. You will be contacted with a reservation time and day. Visit the Rescue Mission for more information.
Second Helpings Clothing Vouchers from The Rescue Mission of Roanoke
Second Helpings provides clothing of all types including accessories, shoes, undergarments, bags, and winter coats to Roanoke families in need. To receive a clothing voucher, apply by providing ID and verification that you qualify for social services. All Manna Food Pantry recipients will receive one voucher for Second Helpings.
Visit the Rescue Mission for more information on available items and requirements for registration.
Feeding Southwest VA
Feeding Southwest Virginia has been “nourishing our neighbors for 43 years”. This food bank has many different locations across the Roanoke Valley, New River Valley, and surrounding areas. Additionally, they offer a unique mobile marketplace that is a “grocery store on wheels”, providing fresh produce at 50% off for all SNAP customers.
For more information call 540-290-0990 or visit the Need Food page on their website to view a map of their locations and find the closest one to you.
Agape Center
The Agape Center provides mentorship, clothing items, hygiene and cleaning items, and food to people experiencing challenging circumstances. Go to the Vinton location to complete an application to be eligible to receive services. While they do currently have a waiting list, they will contact you as soon as openings are available.
Find Help Website
Findhelp.org is an online database of local resources available from transportation to housing to legal aid in your area. Simply type in your zip code, tap “search”, then select the category of needs to view an extensive list of local and national resources who might be able to help.
